By: Sarah Ferguson I recently had the privilege to speak at the 3rd Annual Women as Global Leaders Conference held in Dubai. This was quite exciting for me. Over 200 women delegates from 60 countries attended the three-day bi-annual conference produced under the patronage of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of Family Development Foundation, General Women's Union and Arab Women's Organization. The focus of the conference was on women's leadership across the globe and on ways to prepare young women for leadership. Our host was Zayed University, the region's first all-woman university. http://www.zu.ac.ae/leadership2006/geninfo.aspx I believe women are natural leaders and at this international gathering of women it's clear to me that women, everywhere share many of the same struggles when it comes to balancing new and traditional roles.
For three days in March 2005, Zayed University held the inaugural Women as Global Leaders conference, welcoming over 1,000 sutdents and educators to Dubai, UAE. With internationally renowned speakers, over 150 papers and workshops, and a variety of cultural diversity, the conference was a milestone event in leadership education and the history of the region. The 2006 conference, with 1800 participants representing over 85 countries, was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE and featured a rich program built upon excitement of the 2005 Women as Global Leaders conference. In March 2008, the Women as Global Leaders conference returned to Dubai and continued Zayed University's commitment to leadership, education and women's leadership with the theme "Learning Leadership". As calls for leadership echo across the globe, there is concentrated interest in the multitude of ways people learn leadership across a variety of contexts. The Women as Global Leaders conference focused on women's emergent and current leadershp roles across the globe as well as the practice of educating student's for and about leadership. Primarily a student leadership conference, Women as Global Leaders draws participants from over 85 countries and from all sectors including education, government, and non-governmental organizations. Now in it's third year, this international student conference has been organized by the University to build bridges that unite female students from around the world. H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan opened the conference on March 10 and encouraged participants to meet with international renowned women leaders, share ideas and engage in debate on "Learning Leadership" . Women are much stronger in resolve then many men I know. We are the instigators of peace! And we all need to become involved in some way or another to help our sisters all over the world. 3.
